eReader Can't Meet All Of Your Needs TabletsAreVersatile
Sometimes there is no limit to what we want. But there is certainly a limit to what we need. When the eReaders came out in the market they were the hot sold items. They are best for book lovers who want a paper like experience. You don’t need to sit in front your monitor and you can just put all your books in your pocket and move around with style! Life was perfect until we realized we needed more from our eReaders. Let me give you my example. I took my eReader when I was a student, I wished my eReader would display colored illustrations of typical diagrams. I wanted to watch the related material on YouTube or any other sharing media. I wanted to listen to the lectures and much more. I wanted more than a book can give from my eReader. And I have to look towards my desktop to get all of this. When I was at home I wanted some other means of entertainment besides reading, I used to wish I [...]

Control What Your Child is Reading on Kindle

Parental Control on Kindle
I love my Kindle. Because of the numerous super duper features it brings. No need saying it, but I am big fan of Kindle and an avid reader myself. I am proud my kids share my love of reading. Well this means my Kindle has to be shared with them… Sigh this didn’t made so happy eventually because they used to get limited time reading stuff on my Kindle, as I used to do sit with them every evening and make them read books in my supervision and then we’ll use to discuss our thoughts on it. I can’t let them use it because I wanted to keep check on what they read and wanted to give their never-ending reading journey with the classical and appropriate flight. I don’t want them to read books like Fifty Shades of Grey neither Lolita, nor I want them accessing my Kindle Store and purchasing books from my account, even if books are refundable. I was looking up options on how to restrict content on my Kindle when I [...]

Can You Really Trust That Book Review?

By Kevin On May 3, 2013 · Add Comment
Book review
Shopping around has become pretty commonplace for everything from used cars to new bed linens. Websites which offer nothing but reviews for both products and services have demonstrated just how popular writing reviews has become as well as how powerful those reviews can be. Although book reviews have been around for generations, only recently have average readers been able to offer their own opinions about which books are worth the time and which ones are better left alone. This renewed popularity and the ability for anyone to write and publish a review has given some authors and publishers the ability to self-promote their own work with ease. Unfortunately, it has also allowed less than scrupulous writers, publishers and sellers to flood the market with reviews that do nothing but try to make a quick buck. How can you tell which reviews are genuine? Fake Reviews – Why They Do It There was a time when book reviews were primarily written by the literary elite and published in newspaper, magazine and literary journals. The books reviewed [...]

5 Books You Won’t Believe Were Banned

By Kevin On May 3, 2013 · Add Comment

Each year, the America Library Association, along with bookstores and book lovers all over the country, celebrate Banned Book Week. This week-long celebration honors books which have been banned or challenged in the past and also sheds light on books which continue to be both challenged and banned outright in libraries, schools and communities. Although it can be hard to understand why any book is banned, the reasoning behind parents moving to remove some books is easier to understand than others. For example, while we may object to the banning of a book like ‘The Anarchist Cookbook’, it’s easy to understand why parents and educators would feel it was inappropriate to have in a school library. Other books, however, are not so easy to understand. Over the years, the American Library Association has released annual reports about books which have been challenged and banned all over the country. Here we’ll look at five books which have made the list and which just might surprise you. The Adventures of Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey The story [...]

Kindle Canada Price Change
Have you been planning to buy the Kindle? Or saving up to buy it? Then you are lucky because Amazon has lowered the prices on Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite Wi-Fi by CDN$ 10! After cutting down the prices of Kindle Fire HD recently and bringing it closer to those of Apple’s tablet in the market, Amazon has now given a discount to Canadian users on the Kindle readers available to them in their homeland. After application of the new lower prices, Kindle that was CDN$ 89 earlier will now be available for CND$ 79 and Kindle Paperwhite Wi-Fi will now be available to CDN$ 129 instead of CDN$ 139. Wow! That’s cool isn’t it? Amazon is lowering its price slowly and strategically. We are hoping to more discount announcements from Amazon in the future and more facilities for Canadian users, but we’ll have to wait a while more. Now Canadian’s customers don’t have to pay more than the US customers as this price was announced the day when [...]

Finding Books that Will Make You Happy :)

By Kevin On April 29, 2013 · Add Comment
Finding Books
Devoting more time to reading, making it through a list of must-read books or even just simply developing better reading habits often top the list of people’s New Year’s resolutions. Although there are plenty of reasons why people don’t meet their reading goals, the most common is that they put too much pressure on themselves regarding what to read and how much they should read. Developing Good Habits Developing any habit, whether it’s reading, exercising, being more organized or anything else, takes time, practice, patience and, most importantly, a routine. Experts across the board agree that it takes about 21 days for something to become a habit and the best way to ensure your new habit sticks is to build it into your daily routine. Other steps which can help ingrain a new habit include Talking about it – post what you’re reading on reading websites or social media Visualize – don’t focus on the mountain of reading you want to do, visualize yourself completing it Be positive – talk to yourself about your reading [...]

How Reading Can Help Improve Math Skills

How Reading Can Help Improve Math Skills
It’s no secret that reading skills translate into a better vocabulary, better critical thinking skills, a more well rounded view of the world and, of course, simply a broader knowledge base. Although these are all great benefits of reading, one little known benefit is how reading can actually help your math skills. Since math is often considered one of the harder subjects for children to learn – especially when they;re young – being able to apply these reading skills can lead to better overall math scores which, in turn, can lead to more children taking an interest not only in math but also other fields of science, including engineering, physics and astronomy. Usually, reading and math are only though of as working together when it comes to those dreaded word problems or memorizing definitions and functions for higher math classes. But a well established reading habit and developed reading skills can help students build their math skills from day one. This is because reading has a host of skills which can be used to help [...]

Bring Up The Bodies – A True Story with Secrets, Revenge, Thrill and Love woven in Royal times

History interests me but not in the dry black and white narration that will make you lose any self created interest even if it exists… Hilary Mantel has rewritten history exactly the way I wanted it to be. She has added colors to the dull canvas and provided drama, thrill, suspense, romance and lust all in the right quantity for her readers to feast, sketching every scene and moment as if it’s really happening in front of them. Since I read the Wolf Hall I have been a big fan of her work, and as soon as I got to know that the second part in the trilogy, Bring up the Bodies, has hit the shelves I wanted to get my hands on it. ‘Bring up the Bodies’ picks up from where Mantel left the story in the Wolf Hall, King Henry VIII and his most clever and powerful minister, Thomas Cromwell are guests at Seymore family’s estate manor, the Wolfhall. From here conspires the tale of most horrifying and treacherous nature that [...]
